Making Sense Of Business Intelligence

Business Intelligence, or “BI”, has become a popular buzzword in the software and technology industry but how does it affect your business?  BI is a broad category of tools and technology that provide a framework for collecting and organizing your business data into graphical views and meaningful reports providing you with better insight to make better decisions.  Without the tools that BI offers, the volumes of data in your Sage MAS 90 or Sage MAS 200 system can be difficult to access and translate in a timely fashion and can result in “information overload” – which delays important business decisions and can expose your company to potentially costly mistakes or missed revenue opportunities.  BI also makes it easier for managers, executives and other non-technical business software users to manipulate data and create ad-hoc inquiries & reports without having to understand the underlying database structure.  The ultimate objective of business intelligence is to improve the relevance, timeliness and quality of useful information.  With that said, let’s examine some of the business intelligence tools that Sage MAS 90 and 200 have to offer. Reminder: EEO Changes Effective September 2007

In 2006, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced the first significant changes to the Employer Information Report (EEO-1 report) since the report’s inception in 1966. Beginning with the 2007 reporting cycle, companies will be required to report on new ethnic and racial information for employees, as well as revised job categories. Here are a few additional resources to help you understand the new job categories, and racial and ethnic data reporting requirements for the EEO-1 form.

Who will be affected by the changes?
Private employers with 100 or more employees and federal contractors with 50 or more employers must file the EEO-1 report.

When do the changes take effect?
The changes to the report take effect in 2007. All reports are due to the EEOC by September 30, 2007.

Here are some links to online Resources that can help you learn more about the revised EEO-1 report:

For clients using the comprehensive Sage Abra HRMS solution, the changes to the report have been addressed. Learn more now.

Sage Abra HRMS Users: On Demand/Void Checks. How should the questions be answered when posting an On Demand or Void check?

Your answer to these questions will impact the data in the "Current" fields (not MTD, QTD or YTD fields) on the Earnings Report, Deduction Report, Tax Withholdings by Tax Code Report and Payee Withholdings Report.  The 401K Report also uses "Current" fields.  If you use any of these reports, custom Crystal reports or  Query reports that use the "Current" fields in the Earnings (PrEarn.dbf), Deductions (PrDeds.dbf) or Taxes (PrTaxes.dbf) data files, then your answers to the two questions following On Demand and Void checks will affect your payroll reporting.  Click here for full details.
